"Self control is strength" is quoted from James Allen's book - As A Man Thinketh. It can mean to hold your annoyances about external things in check, but the deeper meaning is to be able to control your thoughts.
There is something really cool about your mind that Mr. Allen and many "manifestors" know to be true. You can control your thoughts. The challenge is to become aware that you are the watcher of your thoughts. Take a moment now and focus on your brain. Are there thoughts rattling around in there? Choose one and talk to it. Tell the thought what you think of it. You should now be able to realize that you are the watcher of your thoughts! This is a life changing AHA moment. The next step is to determine if you want to keep or get rid of a thought. You do this by making the decision to keep it or toss it. With time and repetition you learn to override any thought that isn't bringing you positivity. This builds confidence. This builds self-control. By removing negativity you now have space in your mind to create the best version of yourself. If you can imagine it, you can make it happen. The most important part of manifesting is truly believing with every part of your soul that you are worthy and you are deserving of goodness. This means clearing out a lifetime of negative and hurtful thoughts that another imperfect broken human gave you to carry around. You are not those thoughts and never were. <3
