I knew at eight years old that I wanted to be a secretary when I grew up.
My brother and I found ourselves in a child welfare office around 1976. The reasons for being there can still conjure up feelings of despair all these years later. While we waited in the front office the secretary working there asked me if I wanted to type on her typewriter. She was so kind to us. I can still remember her pink suit that had white trim on it. When I decided to select a career path in my mid 20's, I chose "Secretarial Studies". As my career evolved, society changed the title of secretary to something else like Administrative Assistant. Regardless of the title, I wasn't meant to remain in that role. Over my 30 year career in the administration field I gained mega experience from various positions that accumulated into my role as an Executive Director. Reflecting back now, I can follow the chain of events that were required for me to have the knowledge I need to now function RJ Streetz Foundation Inc. and the facility that will one day be RJ Streetz Haven. It had to start with being a secretary. Fate or destiny? I'll let you decide that for yourself.
