Fragile hearts

I grew up in a generation where we were told "you want something to cry about, I'll give you something to cry about" or if you skinned your knee "just rub some dirt on it, you'll be fine". 

The message was loud and clear...emotions=no no; toughness=yes yes. We grew up hardening our hearts. As an adult trying to undo all of that wrong advise can be a real challenge for some of us. We prefer to make do with what we know.

Some of us decided we didn't want a hardened heart and did the work to soften it. We let go of what we didn't have to own, amended what we did have to own, and now live in a place of peace. 

I'm glad I did the work. I'm glad I softened my heart. I'm glad I can love freely. <3
