Eagle is love

There are seven sacred teachings in the  Indigenous culture. Each teaching has an animal to go along with it.

Eagle is love.
Bear is courage.
Buffalo is respect.
Wolf is humility.
Sabe is honesty.
Turtle is truth.
Beaver is wisdom.

An elder taught me that when you are listing the animals and you are struggling to remember one, it's that teaching that you are to work on at that time. I love the simplicity of the Indigenous culture. <3

Suffer no more

I am a thinker. A deep thinker. This is a good way to be...most of the time. Sometimes a person can overthink and miss the point of the lesson in front of them.

Letting go is one of the hardest lesson's we will undertake in our lifetime. If something is feeling forced, it is not meant to be. Forcing something to happen will only bring more resistance later on. All matters should be entered into willingly. To do otherwise is an impure intention and as we know, impure intentions never work out.

We are not bound to another being or a thing. The only thing that matters in life is how YOU feel about anything at anytime. If it no longer serves you, let it go. Allow what is supposed to be there, to be there. You need to feel short term pain for long term gain. <3

Distraction

I was a teenager when computers had black screens and green writing. There were a couple of computers at my high school that the really smart kids used. I couldn't understand what was so fascinating about them.

In my twenties I took Secretarial Studies and we were introduced to computers as a means to write and print documents. Where I was employed only the boss had email and access to the internet.

My son graduated high school in 2006 and received his first cell phone as a gift from a good friend of mine. I had refused to get him one as we had a landline at home.

Fast forward to 2022 when I got my first cell phone. It's two years later and I wished I hadn't.

They are a distraction. They are taking our eyes off of what is important in life. They are making us into machines. I have limited my use of my cell phone to necessity only. My eyes, ears, and mouth are in the now where they are supposed to be. I am aware. <3

Self-Care

It is not selfish to want to love yourself before you love another being.

Who you see looking back at you in the mirror at any given time is who should receive the lion's share of your love. Full stop.

Everyone being on earth wants the same thing...to be loved. Where we get it wrong is that we think its to be loved by others when in actuality it is to be loved by you.

You have found true love when you have found love for yourself. No one is ever going to love you the way you are able to love yourself. Figuring this out is the freedom that is sought by all of us.

To thine own self be true. No truer words have ever been written. <3

Making space

Change is inevitable. It has to happen regardless of our feelings about it.

That being said, you can actually have a say in the change(s) that occur in your sphere. How you react to change will determine what the change will bring you.

Clinging on to something that is only taking up space in your life will bring you unhappiness. Realizing that you have to let go in order to make space for what is supposed to be there will bring you happiness.

We fear change. We fear the unknown. We want to control something that is not within our control. We have to learn to trust that God, Creator, Universe, Higher Power, Source of all that is, knows best. Fighting against that is futile. Let go of what no longer serves you. Welcome the newness of what will. <3

You have permission

Being sure of one's self can bring visceral feelings out in others. I think those feelings come from a place of fear.

When others see you living your best life, they may get fearful that they are not doing the same. This is not a natural way to feel. We were taught by someone to feel fearful in this way.

The truth of the matter is that you are exactly where you need to be in your life...good and bad. Thinking otherwise puts us in a state of fear that causes unnecessary anxiety.

Acceptance that you are at this moment because of your own creativity gives you the ability to tweak it as you see fit. Once you understand this concept fully, you are expected to show others how to do the same. Hence why not everyone is going to understand what the heck you are doing! <3

We did this

In a world where keeping people down is revered, be someone who lifts people up.

Why do we teach our children not to be a bully and yet we accept this behaviour from other adults?

What suddenly changed that the child, now an adult, should be given another set of rules to follow?

We can see by the state of our society that bullying does not work and that we have created the mess we see around us. God, Creator, Universe, Higher Power, Source from all that is, did not create the mess. We did.

Do you want to change it? If you do, stop being a bully and start being a hero. Be the change you want to see in the world. <3

We're not multitaskers

Having the ability to do many things at one time receives accolades when in actuality it should not be revered.

I remember the words "half-assed" spoken throughout my childhood. Or "if you are going to do it, do it right". This instilled in me the importance of focusing on one thing at a time. Doing so allowed the "thing" to have my undivided attention resulting in giving it a "full-assed" effort. :-)

Your hurrying, fretting, and worrying about getting things done won't change the outcome, but it will cause you unnecessary angst in the meantime.

Slow down. Focus. Pick what YOU feel needs your energy. Do that thing. Repeat.

Your space

As a younger woman I struggled with body image. I was taught to believe that women were not supposed to take up a lot of space so we had to be as thin as possible. Living life like that everyday wears a person down.

Out of the blue one day I read a quote that changed my whole perspective in that one moment. I can't remember it word for word, but the important part was something like this: "you are worthy, take up as much space as you need".

From then on it became my mission to undo the untruths about what others gave me as thought. Instead, I focused on my own thoughts and what they mean to my being. It occurred to me that we are held down, or we hold others down, because of unnecessary fear.

Conquer the fear(s) and you will have earned the ability to live life as it is supposed to be lived. If you've dimmed your light, ask yourself why, make the appropriate changes, and get out there and start living. And while you are at it, take up as much space as you need! <3

You are faith

Depending on how much "stuff" was heaped on you from birth, it may take awhile for aha moments to occur. I had my first aha moment when I was six years old. That didn't stop the heaping of stuff, but it gave me a deep understanding about life.

We've all got "stuff" that someone else shared with us and has us lugging their stuff around along with our own "stuff". We've all had someone that we've shared our stuff with and have them lugging it around along with their own stuff. It's a cycle.

What is becoming apparent as we evolve is that we are not meant to have unnecessary stuff restricting our access to our own being. Aha moments start coming rapidly when this is realized. We start to fully live when this is realized.

Faith isn't a belief in a higher power. Faith is believing in yourself. <3
